Grabenwarter: Constitution and practical experience guarantee the professional competence of constitutional judges

President Christoph Grabenwarter today swore in Angela Julcher and Stefan Perner as new members of the Constitutional Court in the courtroom of the Constitutional Court. They had previously been nominated by the federal government and appointed by Federal President Van der Bellen. Julcher and Perner replace the retiring members Helmut Hörtenhuber and Claudia Kahr; they will participate in deliberations starting tomorrow, 11 June.

In his welcoming address, President Grabenwarter stated: ‘The procedure for appointing judges laid down in the Constitution and, above all, the practice of handling the appointment requirements ensure the professional and personal qualifications of the members.’ According to Christoph Grabenwarter, Julcher and Perner meet the requirements for appointment to a very high degree. He illustrated this by describing the careers of Angela Julcher and Stefan Perner. Grabenwarter also emphasised that a professional judge and an expert in civil law are now rejoining the Constitutional Court.
