Helmut HÖRTENHUBER

Helmut Hörtenhuber, Member of the Constitutional Court 

Dr. Helmut Hörtenhuber, born on September 15th, 1959 in Linz; attended school in Linz, graduated in 1978 from the Naturwissenschaftliche Realgymnasium (science-oriented grammar school) Linz-Urfahr; doctorate in law (Dr.iur.) at the Johannes Kepler University Linz in 1982; assistant in the administrative sector of the regional education authority (“Landesschulrat”) for Upper Austria from 1981 to 1983; regional service (“Landesdienst”) Upper Austria, assignment of multiple divisions at the Office of the Government of Upper Austria as well as at the district administration (“Bezirkshauptmannschaft”) Gmunden, in 1983; academic assistant at the Constitutional Court from 1986 to 1987; occupation at the Constitutional Service at the Office of the Government of Upper Austria from 1987 on, as well as at the State Parliament of Upper Austria (“Landtagsdirektion”) from 1989; Deputy State Parliament Director (“Landtagsdirektor-Stellvertreter”) and Deputy Head of the Constitutional Service from 1990 to 1993; clerk internship at the Legal Service of the (Commission of the) European Communities 1992; head of the Constitutional Service of the Office of the Government of Upper Austria and state parliament director (“Landtagsdirektor”) from 1993 to 2008; lecturer at the Johannes Kepler University Linz since 2009, and honorary professor for Public Law at the Johannes Kepler University since 2011.

Member of the Constitutional Court since 2008; repeatedly elected Judge-Rapporteur; nominated for constitutional judge by the Federal Government.
