Dr. Verena Madner, born in Linz on 12 May 1965; attended school in Upper Austria and Salzburg; graduated in 1983 from grammar school (Akademisches Gymnasium) in Salzburg; studied first at the Institute for Translation and Interpreting at the University of Vienna and since 1984 law at the University of Vienna (1989 Mag.iur., 1994 Dr.iur.); 1990 to 2000 University Assistant at the Institute for Constitutional and Administrative Law (now Institute for Austrian and European Public Law) at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU); 1996 to 1997 Legal Expert at the International Law Office of the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs; 2000 to 2013 Member of the Independent Environmental Tribunal (from 2004 Deputy Chairperson, from 2008 Chairperson); 2000 to 2011 Assistant Professor at the Institute for Austrian and European Public Law; 2011 to 2015 Professor for Public Law and Public Management; since 2015 Professor for Public Law and Environmental Law at the Department of Social Economics at the Vienna University of Economics and Business; since 2011 Co-Head of the Research Institute for Urban Management and Governance and since 2018 Head of the Institute for Law and Governance at the Vienna University of Economics and Business; 2019 Research Fellow and Visiting Professor at the Department of Business and Law at the University of Siena; since 2019 Member of the Climate Council of the City of Vienna.

Since 24 April 2020 Vice-President of the Austrian Constitutional Court; elected Judge-Rapporteur; nominated for the post of Vice-President by the Federal Government.
